Confidence in economy
Confidence in economy is still down so far in July per Rasmussen's daily index (3-day mov avg). Latter fell to 76.4 today - further below June & May avgs of 80.6 & 84.1. It hit record low of 54.7 last March. Just 27% say economy is getting better vs 50% as worse while 23% say their finances are better vs 46% as worse. High unemployment is the main worry. Both IBD/TIPP's consumer optimism and Michigan-U's confidence indices fell this month. On Tuesday, Conference Bd releases its July sentiment poll, consensus f/cast for dip from 52.9 in June. Key to look at jobs and income sentiment among consumers. Meanwhile, reg gas costs $2.74 on avg now, up 25 cents Y/Y. With oil near $79, gas prices may edge higher. At least, equities are up in July in terms of potential wealth-effect. Stock gains lifted Q1 household net worth.
